Three new Sketches

Some more sketches. The top two are from the Kerrville trip. The Cowboy is Tex Randall, and he is in Canyon TX. He was built 50 years ago, by the shop teacher there.  He has been redone twice now.  He is 47 feet tall! A fun one to see. Of course I didn't do him justice! I painted it with Casein paint.it is similar to Gouache. The other two are transparent watercolor.  The are drawn and painted in a 5x5 sketchbook.

Two more sketches. I have been working on some collages and not getting to draw as much.
one is an old fence post from somewhere, and the other is an old car.  I have already drawn this a couple times. I keep finding different views of it.

Old Dump Truck

Out side of Sweetwater Texas is an old run down dilapidated house with some very old cars and trucks around it.  I can't believe people just leave their old cars like it was left there 50-60 years ago!

It is drawn with ink, and painted with gouache.

Experimenting with new paint

I have been watching James Gurney use Casein and gouache and I wanted to try the Casein since i love gouache so much. So here is a try...I sketched with brown ink, then painted with watercolor then went back with the Casein. It is just an opaque watercolor that has been lused for centuries.  It is made using milk. I don't really know much about it, even after googling it.

This is the Saddle shop in Post TX.

Two New Sketches

I wanted to try some new paint 'Casein' and did the small flag, just messing around with it to see how it painted.  One of the main things I noticed was the smell.  I haven't found much info on Casein, but hope to soon.

We were headed to Midland TX the other day when we got to O'Donnell TX we stopped for photos.
Right there on the main highway running by the town is an awesome old building and several old trucks! Of course I had to get a bunch of pics!

Sketchbook Workshop

I just had a sketchbook workshop and I had a blast! i LOVE being around people who want to learn, and are excited about lines, color and shadows, and paint, and sketching....and on and on.
The 12 there were ALL the above. They were all so awesome and did a great job. We had some laughs.  We had a hick up though. My 2 year old Air conditioner quit! we were in a 90 degree room with 12 laughing talking women! WHAT A HOOT! I LOVED it.
The first day we worked inside. On the 2nd day we went out to Rock'n B and B and sketched the lavender and the old house. Then we went to the court house lawn and sat under the shade trees and sketched there.  I hope to have another one in about 5-6 months. I need to look at the calendar and get it set up.  It will be limited to no more than 12.  I hope you can join us sometime in the future!

Sketches from Kerrville Tx

I spent a week in Kerrville, TX at another SKB workshop.  This one was called TexArt.  It was a great week.  David Rankin was the watercolor instructor and i really enjoyed his class.  He is an awesome instructor.  We did gray studies using paynes gray watercolor.  We also all did this same snow scene.  They all turned out great.
We also went to the Musuem of Western art in Kerrville and saw the beautiful paintings about Charles Goodnight by Lee Cable. They are awesome. Then Friday Night we went to Fredericksburg to the Hanna Gallery to see the Society of Animals exhibit. Wow! What artists they are.  If you are close by go see these awesome art pieces.

Abandoned

I found this old car going to Sweetwater TX. i had to ask more than once for Ken to stop!
It is done in a new sketchbook. Strathmore 8x5.5.  I used the brown ink that I love.
I am teaching a 2 day 'Sketchbook' Class June 23-24.  It is almost full, if you are interested, contact me. It is $100 for both days.
